Pinterest: A to Z On How Pinterest Works!

There are so many things to think about when it comes to using Pinterest, that I thought I’d take a moment to create an A to Z of how Pinterest works. Because not everyone is fluent in the Pinterest language, and sometimes it can get just a little overwhelming knowing how Pinterest works – especially when they change things up so often!

So here you go.. an A to Z on how Pinterest works! Enjoy!

A Is For…

Active. Like a busy Bee. Be this, on Pinterest, for the best results. Active equals consistency. And Pinterest loves a bit of consistency!

B Is For…

Board. The place where you save pins to, usually topic based. Be sure to create boards that are keyword rich, and in a conversational tone please!

C Is For…

Claim. Your website. So that Pinterest knows you are the content creator of your own pins.

D Is For…

Design. Use Canva or Photoshop to design visually engaging images. Start by looking at pins you like the style of, then create your own version. Notice I said create, not copy!

E Is For…

Engagement. This is essential if you want your Pinterest account to do well. No engagement now means Pinterest will not show your content to others! And that means minimal referral traffic!

F Is For…

Followers. The name given to people who follow your account or individual boards. Having engaged followers is important for Pinterest traffic growth! More so with the newly reinstated following tab!

G Is For…

Google Analytics. The only analytics area you should be focusing on, as it is the only place where you can truly understand what is happening in terms of Pinterest referral traffic to your website.

H Is For…

Holiday. This is the season that Pinterest accounts can see crazy traffic. Optimise your pins and posts for holiday search terms, even if you don’t think it’s applicable – just think outside the box!

I Is For…

Inspire. Find the best content from around the web to inspire Pinterest users. Don’t just regurgitate what is already available. Find the best.

J Is For…

Judge. Every pin that you find and go to save. It is useful to your audience? Will it help them or add value in some way? Does it lead to a non-spammy site?

K Is For…

Keywords. Your Pinterest strategy is nothing without keywords. Research the ones for your niche on Pinterest, and use them appropriately.

L Is For…

Love. Love Pinterest. Be on Pinterest each day, like a normal Pinterest person. Show Pinterest that you love being on the platform. And wait for the results!

M Is For…

Maintain. You need a high quality account. If a board is stagnating, archive it and create a new topic board.

N Is For…

New. Pinterest LOVES new content, be it a new image or a new keyword rich description. Keep things new and fresh on Pinterest, and you’ll make steady progress.

O Is For…

Optimise. Your profile, your boards, your pins. Have everything optimised for Pinterest so that you get found in search.

P Is For…

Pin. A visual image that has been saved to Pinterest. It could be a photo, or a graphic created in Canva or Photoshop.

Q Is For…

Quality check. Every single URL. You do not want to be seen sharing spam on Pinterest!

R Is For…

Report. Notice a stolen pin of yours or a fellow blogger or small biz owner? Report it to Pinterest so they can take it down!

S Is For…

Spammy behaviour. Beware of sharing content too frequently. Seen as spamming Pinterest, it could get you suspended faster than I drink a cup of coffee!

T Is For…

Teach. Pinterest is a place many people go to, in order to learn new things. Create content that teaches.

U Is For…

Use it wisely. Pinterest offers you traffic to your website for free. So many bloggers seem to think that traffic from Pinterest is their right. It isn’t. It is a privilege afforded to us content creators for creating useful, inspiring and educational content. Abuse this at your peril!

V Is For…

Viral. We all dream of pins that take off and go viral, sending us hundreds of thousands of page views in a day. Ok, slight exaggeration. Going ‘viral’ happens less frequently nowadays, but we still dream!

W Is For…

Widgets. Pinterest helps you to create widgets that you can add to your website. Use them, to encourage your website visitors to follow you on Pinterest!

X Is For…

(e) Xplore. The explore tab may have gone but that does not stop us from exploring Pinterest for new ideas. Use the search bar. Explore the results. Curate for your followers!

Y Is For…

Yearly. So many people get caught up with the daily stats. Yes, you should monitor your Pinterest stats but track their growth against the previous year, not the previous day, week or month.

Z Is For…

Zero. The amount of referral traffic you will never see if you follow this A to Z! Truly. Make use of it, it’ll help you grow your Pinterest profile!

The A to Z On How Pinterest Works!
